Who Should Attend:
This 2 1/2 day course is designed for engineers and technicians who are new to the power industry. It is also appropriate for those who are cross-training within a utility with a limited background in underground distributions systems.
Students should have an understanding of electric system equipment before attending this class.
The course reviews the design, layout and requirements for engineering an underground distribution system. Some topics that will be covered include: Supply Configuration, Design Criteria, System Constraints, Customer Requirements, and Design Applications.
The curriculum includes course work and homework to ensure opportunities to apply the concepts presented during class.
Upon completion of this course, participants will have the skills to design and layout an underground distribution urban and URD system. Participants will also gain an awareness of applying industry codes and standards (NESC, NEC, OSHA).
Students are asked to bring their company’s standards for URD and Commercial Design with them to the class.
The course is instructed by experienced utility professionals possessing a solid background in utility power systems and operations:

- Carlton Sutherland, Customer Lead Engineer, The United Illuminating Co./AVANGRID. Associate in Electrical Engineering, Greater New Haven State Technical College.
