Who Should Attend:

This two-day course is designed for electric power utility engineers, designers and technicians involved in transmission and distribution system protection, control and monitoring, including utility relaying, SCADA, automation or Smart Grid.

This training will also benefit electric utility telecommunications and information technology professionals who provide communication systems support for the transmission and distribution systems.

Deliverables:

This is an intensive, short course that is intended to provide comprehensive coverage of Power Systems Communications utilized for the protection, control and monitoring of the transmission and distribution systems. Emphasis is placed on the fundamental applications related details required for the reliable, safe and economic operation of these critical systems.

Participants will gain an understanding of power systems communications requirements and available telecommunications technology to meet these requirements.

Instructor(s):

Scott Bower, P.E. is presently a Principal Engineer at PLM Engineering, Inc., responsible for developing protection requirements and relay one-line diagrams, performing short circuit/relay coordination studies, and developing detailed relay operating descriptions.  Scott has a BSEE degree from Marquette University and a MSEE degree from Northeastern University specializing in electric power engineering.

Andrew Murray, CISSP, P.E. is presently a Principal Engineer at PLM Engineering, inc. His 18 years of experience at PLM includes SCADA standards and specifications work as well as on-site commissioning of SCADA and communications systems. He is a member of the IEEE PES, a registered P.E. in MA and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Andrew received a BSEE from Northeastern University.
