PUI: Meter School - Basic Metering (Track 1)

Part of ECNE's Power Utility Institute (PUI), Meter School - Basic Metering (Track 1) will be held May 16 - 18, 2017 at National Grid's Training Center (449 Southwest Cutoff, Worcester, MA 01604).  

Basic Metering combines classroom instruction with hands-on lab training techniques for a comprehensive understanding of basic metering.

The program brings together meter personnel and management from a variety of regional utilities to solve common problems, discuss standard best practices, various procedures and new technologies.

Who Should Attend:

This track is designed to benefit the technical employee and meter reader entering technical metering applications who can gain by hands-on learning applications. It can also benefit meter supervisors and managers who have a technical education but limited experience in the meter function.

Deliverables:

Attendees who complete this track will have a comprehensive understanding of single phase and self-contained polyphase meter theory, application, installation, testing and troubleshooting techniques. The track also covers related mathematics, electrical measurement theory, and revenue protection basics.

Lodging is not included in tuition and must be arranged directly with the hotel.  Be sure to mention Energy Council of the Northeast or the Group Code: ECN to get the rate.  Rooms and rates are held until Tuesday, May 2nd.

Meter Lab

Instruction in metering and metering hardware for single-phase, network and polyphase self-contained applications. Reviews ANSI form numbers, meter sockets, voltage measurements and installation safety checks. Discussion of many types of self-contained meters and metering devices with working examples in a meter training room. This class assumes a basic knowledge of self contained metering.

Basic Electricity Lab

This course provides instruction in AC and DC circuits and the use of measuring hardware including voltmeters, ammeters, multimeters and other measurement tools. Demonstration of each concept using hands on hardware to create and measure the actual electrical quantities. Includes a discussion of safety procedures and safe work practices. This class assumes no knowledge of meters or circuits.

Troubleshooting Lab

A continuation of the Meter Lab where simulated meter socket and wiring conditions are measured, analyzed and discussed in a meter laboratory environment. Includes typical field situations that result in improper or unsafe metering practices and how to spot them and safely correct them.

Revenue Protection Basics Lab by Tony Colangelo, Eversource Energy

Basics of revenue protection, including seals & sealing practices, high security devices, seal tracking, record keeping & evidence gathering. This course assumes no working knowledge of revenue protection.
