As many utilities have elected to deploy advanced metering systems and millions of new, solid-state, microprocessor-based end points with communications under glass, a dramatic shift has begun regarding where metering resources are being deployed and what they are doing.  There's a new value proposition for metering personnel at utilities in a post-AMI world.  Examples of issues which have emerged or have been identified over the course of various deployments and in the immediate aftermath of an AMI deployment.

We are pleased to have Tom present this session as it was featured as the keynote address for an industry conference in 2017!  Tom will discuss the importance of embracing the future and new technologies, specifically second-generation AMI, the benefits of smart street lights, a new revenue opportunity with smart poles, the new market with electric vehicles, and more.  The presentation also discusses the importance of renewables and storage and how utilities are pursuing ways to partner with their customers with this opportunity.
