Who Should Attend:

This three-day course is designed for engineers and technicians who are new to the power industry or new to distribution protection and coordination or those who are cross-training within a utility with a limited background in distribution system functions.

Knowledge of electric system equipment and completion of the PUI Electrical Calculations I Course, or equivalent experience/training, is a prerequisite.

The course will be of interest to construction planners, customer service representatives or regulatory personnel who would benefit from a more extensive understanding of the operation and protection of the distribution system.

Deliverables:

The course provides a comprehensive review of the general principles, equipment, requirements and methodology employed to protect electric distribution systems.

The curriculum includes course work and homework to ensure opportunities to apply the concepts presented during class.

Upon completion of this course, participants will understand and be able to apply distribution protection concepts from the substation circuit breaker to the customer. They will understand many of the variables that enter into protection analysis and how to evaluate them during the course of a protection study. Students must be proficient with an engineering or scientific calculator and bring one to the class.
